Movie vs. The Stroy

Everyone knows that hollywood dramitizes many great stories in order for them to have more appeall in the theaters. WIth my story, The Shawshank Redemption, the changes were not that significant. The makers of the movie keep the main plot and characters in tact. Some of the differences are the arrivial of new prisoners, some actions that Warden Norotn takes, and also Byron Hadley's actions.

In the movie, the older prisoners would bet on which one of the new prisoners would cry first. This was never in the book. It was added to the movie because it gives a level of humor that the viewers can see. It makes it seem that the prison life that Andy is going through is not that bad. It makes the viewers sympothize with him more and that makes them more incline to watch the movie.

The Warden Norton has Andy do his taxes for him, because Andy;s job before he was put into prison delt with business and numbers. In exchange for this favor, Warden Norton, gives Andy special treatment. However, in the movie, it shows that the warden has Andy keep a seperate set of books for him, which he stores in the wall. This was never in the book. This added a level of mystery and suspense to the movie.

Byron Hadley is the mean prisoner that everyone fears. In the movie, he is arrested and in the story, he dies of a heart attack. The most logical reason that they did not put him dying in the movie was to avoid the sadness of the viewers, that death brings. It is easier to just "arrest" a person then to kill there character off. Not killing him, allows them to have the flexable to bring him back for another movie, which we know was not made.

The movie, The Shawshank Redemption was very good. It showed what pisoners go through, even though it might not be realistic. It also shows the emotions that a person can go through when they are put into stressfull situations. Another emotion that is shown in the movie is fear. Of course, they are in prison which is scary enough, but its the individual interactions that show how a person handles fear.

Shawshank Redemption

Plot
The story and movie of Shawshank Redemption is one of the most popular stories to have ever been created. It takes place in the late 1940's and some 20 to 30 years down the road. It is the story of a man that had been accused of murdering his wife and sentenced to life in prision. However, this man, Andy Dufresne, was not like the other prisoners, becuase he did not let prison take away his spirit. After 20 some years, Andy escaped from Shawshank and made his way towards Mexico, leaving a not behind to his friend Red, who was also in prison, to join him in Mexico.

Point of View
The point of view of this story is 3rd person narative. It is told through the eyes of an inmate named Red. Red was the prisoner that could get you anything that you wanted. The story coming from his point of view may have given a sckewed view of what Andy was truely thinking, but nontheless, described the events very well. The story might have been played out differently if it would have been told from the view of Andy. There would have been a alot more inner feelings and thoughts regardeing the escape.

Characterization
There are two main characters in this Story. One of them being Andy and the other one being Red. Andy is a person that is spending life in prison for the murder of his wife, which he says that he did not do. Red, was already in prison when Andy got there, and was known as the man that could get you anything that you wanted. Red, also, was one of the only people that believed Andy was innocent. Red and Andy became friends on the inside and when Andy made his escape, he invited Red to come along with him to Mexico, showing the bond the two had formed.

Setting
The setting of this story is over the span of many years. It starts in the late 1940's and then goes through almost the 1970's. Andy had spent 20 some years in prison before he had broken out. The scence of the story was Shawshank Prison, where Andy and Red were both inmates. Almost all of the story takes place throughout the prison because Andy and Red were assisigned jobs as laborers working on the roof of the prisons plants.

Theme
The theme of this story is that no matter how hard life may get, you can't let anything keep you away from what you believe or what you want. Andy, throughout the years that he was in prison, maintained his innocent even though everyone around him believed that he was guilty. Also, Andy keep his want to escape from prison alive, and eventually he achieved his goal. Even in the toughest place one could be, Andy still managed to keep his spirits high and never hang his head.

Sonnet

The sonnet that I have decided to write about is sonnet 130. In this sonnet, Shakespear tells a stpry of a man and his mistress. By mistress, he does not mean in the adultrous way but that she is his wife. For the first 3/4 of the poem, he has the reader believing that the the man did not like his mistress. However, the last two lines of the sonnet paint a different story. It actually tells the reader that the man really does love his mistress.

The final two lines described how much the man loved his mistress. He says that he thinks that she is the most beautiful women in the world. He says that he does not want to lie and and exaggerate with his words. He just wants to tell her the way that he feels without using something that is not realistic. He shows his live simply by using just two lines to describe his love for her.

Ballad Blog

The song that I have chose to blog about is Renegade by the band Styx. This songs is about the tragic events that led up to the capturing of a fugitive. This song is considered a ballad because it has to do with tragic accidents and sudden disasters. The sudden disaster would be that the fugitive was caught. In the song, the fugitive talks about how te "long arm" of the law had bought him in and about how far he is away from his home. The song is actually really good and it also interesting that it shows a type of literary writing that people can see in there textbooks. The structure of the song represents that of a poem. However, it does not read as a poem.

A hero is a person that shows bravery and courage in the face of danger. A fictional herp would someone like Superman. He helps out people that can not help thereselves no matter what the danger. He does not care abut race or gender. He is a true her because he takes what an average person couldn'd do, and makes it a possibility.

A hero that is known in public would be Martin Luther King Jr. MLK lead the civil right movment for all African American people to obtained rights that the white people had. He took an entire race under him and with a little help he took them from nothing to a working member of society. He is truerly a hero becuase he was one of only a few people to stand up for what he believed in, and he also did it with non viloence.

A personal her that I know would be my parents. They raised me since I was a baby, which is a hard task in itself. However, what is really heroic is that no matter what I do they still love me. They might not always care for what I have done but they will always love me because I am their son. I feel that parents, in general, are heros because of their every day actions.
